Alfred W McMasters, who is cropper for N. A. Manner, near Alamance Church, has produced the earliest cotton shapes of the season in this section, so far as we are informed. Mr. T. S. Shelton returned last night from a brief visit to Piedmont Springs. He says that many deaths are occurring in that section from di arrhea, which prevails extensively in the surrounding country. A large number of the excur sionists who went to Mount Airy yesterday returned last night, the re mainder this morning. The number of people present is variously esti matedranging from 12,000 down to 4,000. We learn from Mtss. Moftit and Craven, of Asheboro, who returned this morning from the Democratic District Convention at Salisbury, that Hon John S. Henderson was nomu nsted for Congress and for elector L. C. This tendency can easily be stimula ted and portable houses be kept on hand fir sale or rent. These houses could be madi for use without floors, where desired, also without roofs, to be covered with canvass to suit tLe taste of the occupants. Communities of our citizens could in that way move out to placet of re sort ner the railroad lines and make very pleasant temporary homes at a cost far lest ' than the charges at hotels and boarding houses. A se lect company association would be an excellent idea, and the placet of encampment need not exceed thirty to forty miles from Greensboro, at points where the purest and best of table supplies could be had at reason able rates.
